ARTiculate ATL is a 501(c)(3) non-profit that provides local, emerging artists a professional environment to show and sell their artwork. For a decade, we have combined various elements of the visual arts—painting, mixed media, graffiti, graphic design, fashion, body painting, sculpture, photography, and installations—with contemporary music to bring art and culture enthusiasts together for a common purpose—to celebrate modern art in all its forms.

IMPACT

  • Each year, artists sell over $32K of work and keep 100% of their sales. Since tracking sales, artwork profits are $300K.

  • On average, we have close to 1,000 patrons in attendance each year, and the age range of attendees is 25 to 75 years old.

  • On social media, we have received over 50,000 impressions on various platforms including Instagram and Facebook.

  • We manage an attendee and supporter email list of almost 3K subscribers.

CONCEPTION

ARTiculate ATL began as an idea we brainstormed in 2012 to create an urban art social that combines the visual arts with contemporary music to bring art and culture enthusiasts together for a common purpose—to celebrate modern art in all its forms.

We decided to proceed with planning the event and approached a potential partner, Urban Art Expression, which hosted paint and sip events throughout Atlanta. We thought their art events would be a good fit with our burgeoning idea. We pitched the idea one night over dinner. They liked it, and from there ARTiculate ATL was born.

BRANDING

Logo Design: We created several iterations of logos before the team decided on a final version. Our vision for the logo was futuristic and urban. We used a graffiti background within the word “ART” to make it more prominent and capitalized “ATL” to emphasize our hometown, which has influenced culture around the globe.

Flyer Design: Over the years, we have kept a consistent theme. We take photos of various areas of the city with a skyline view, and artist George Galbreath paints on top of the photo image to create a mixed media canvas. We also sell the original art image used every year at our art show. After finalizing the main image, we finish the flyer design with the other pertinent event and sponsorship information and logo.

EXPERIENCE DESIGN

Each year, we strive to improve the experience for patrons that attend our event. We receive feedback from people via surveys and interviews. Additionally, as a team, we conduct a post-mortem meeting to see what went well and what needs to change in the future. Listed below are some of the things we do to enhance the experience.

  • Our venue selection is based on a centralized location in the city, large enough to comfortably showcase ~30 artists and accommodate 900+ attendees, and that has ample parking so that attendees won’t have to spend time searching for a parking space.

  • To reduce the time it takes to check in attendees, we use the Eventbrite app on mobile devices to check people inside and outside the venue.

  • For libations, we partner with various spirit brands to ensure that there is a variety of beverage options for attendees to enjoy.

  • For music, we select our DJs to ensure that there is an eclectic mix of music played throughout the event. Cofounder Brandon Ball also DJs during the event and incorporates music across many genres.

  • Small bites are provided to guests, and we include vegan and gluten-free options for more variety.

  • The video below provides a reel of the experience over the past 10 years.
